Who really cares about backwards compatibility?

I hear a lot of people complain about PS3 not having bc and some even go to the point as to not buy a PS3 at all do to it missing this factor. Let me start off by saying that is ridiculous! First of all, it was a smart financial move for sony to drop bc due to the extra cost it was brining to the PS3. Removing the PS2 emulator lowered production costs for the PS3 allowing them to lower the selling price. Next point is when you think about the PS2 in some European countries the PS2 still out sells the xbox 360 and still sells substantially well all over the world. With the PS2 being in its 10th year of development selling the units at 99$ is not only a cheap console option for consumers but is straight profit for Sony. Secondly, who cares!!! There's a reason why people call this gen “next generation”. Why would you want to play outdated ps2 games when there are so many great “next gen” ps3 titles?? I mean i have a BC PS3 and havent played one single PS2 game on it. For those so worried about playing your huge library of PS2 games well if you have the games you probably still have a ps2!! Play them on your ps2!! Or a get a new slim model for 99$!! Microsoft kept bc for the 360 but if it didnt then that would be a the real outrage for those of you who bought a xbox only to have it killed off entirely in only 4 short years. I had my PS2 for more than 6 years before it finally stopped reading discs, then i got a slim before the PS3 came out and my slim PS2 works just fine so im pretty tired of PS2 games after nearly 9 years of it. If your one of those people holding back from buying a PS3 due to bc then do yourself a favor and get a PS3 for its great line up of "next gen" titles, blu-ray, web browser, Free PSN, PS1 downloadable games, built in wifi, netflix, etc etc....

PS3 sweeps 2009 VGA's

Well it didnt exactly go my way with the awards show but PS3 swept the show taking 5 awards and 3 of them pretty important. God of War 3 took most anticipated game and is much deserving. Flower also took the award for best independent game. The star of the night was Uncharted 2. Uncharted 2 took home 2 of the most important awards of the night and the most important PS3 award as well. It got the award for best graphics, best ps3 game, and the most coveted award of them all... game of the year. Just goes to show you that just because a game sells millions doesnt mean it is a good game (Halo 3 ODST). Its amazing what hype, marketing, and cults can do for a game.

Why do poeple keep comparing games to God of War 3???

Photobucket

I have read so many articles where journalists are comparing games to GoW3 and only one compares and in fact its nearly an exact copy. Lets break it down... First, i heard people comparing Darksiders Wrath of war to it.
Photobucket
Lets make it clear, this game is only similar to GoW3 in the fact that it has references to hell and greek mythology. From what iv seen this game seems decent but no where near as good as GoW3. Lets move along to Bayonetta...
Photobucket
First off let me say that i was a sceptic of this game. After i played the demo i had a change of heart. Bayonetta has a great female main character and the story line seems pretty cool as well. But as for comparing it to GoW3 in any way shape or form is rediculous. This game is a close clone to Devil May Cry 4. It has the same fight mechanics and similar weapons even. So not saying it is a bad game but still not comparable and not quite on the GoW3 level. Now onto my last heard comparable, Dantes Inferno.
Photobucket
If anyone is going to compare a game to GoW3 THIS IS THE GAME!!! Dantes Inferno is basically an exact clone of GoW3.. This is another game i was not sure of but again after playing the demo i became a believer. As i said this game is almost exactly like GoW3, from the fighting mechanics, to the weaponry, to the magic, to the way he gets health/mana, to riding beasts and getting them to attack your enemies for you. The storylines are even the same genre. But lets look at this from a different angle, the god of war series is a great series and i am a huge fan of them and GOW3 is being held in high acclaim from journalists, web sites, and people who have played the demo. So if DI is a clone of it then shouldnt it be a great game too? This is my perspective, now im all for original ip's and dont usually like copycat games but look at it like this, if you are a fan of GoW and are a PS3 owner get this as it comes out nearly 2 months before GoW3 and will satisfy your god of war craving. If your a PS3 owner and can only afford one then get GoW3, it is the original and why get the next best thing? Now if your an xbot and only have a 360 pick up DI as it is the closest thing you will ever play to GoW.

Netflix on PS3: My experience

It seems that more and more every day that the PSN grows closer and closer to "XBL quality", and for free might i add. Recently sony announced that Netflix was coming to the PS3 and now that it has arrived i cant be happier. I never had a netflix account but after i heard that not only could i get movies by mail but i could also instantly stream them using my PS3 i had to sign up for a free trial. I hear alot of people say that the quality is not so good but i think it has more to do with their own personal set up in regard to their router and ISP. I have been streaming tv shows every day and only 1 time has it buffered on me and it was a problem with my internet. Others complain about having to put in the netflix blu ray disc to use the stream feature but it is no problem to me and it is only temporary to get around the contractual obligations that netflix has with microsoft. Once their contract is up it will be a feature added to the XMB just like the 360 has. For me the quality is great and it streams in hd. Now my free membership is up and im a netflix member thanks to the feature being available on the PS3.

PS3 Slim vs. 360 Elite

Now there have been many comparisons done on these systems now that they are noth 299$ there at a great price but which has the best bang for your buck? Also which has the least amount of hidden costs?

PS3:

  • 120Gig HD

  • Blu ray

  • Free PSN

  • Web Browser

  • No PS2 Emulator

  • Great game line up

Xbox 360:

  • 120Gig HD

  • DVD

  • 50$ Xbox Live

  • No Web browser

  • Xbox Emulator

  • Great game line up

Just based on these common factors alone you can see the PS3 is a better bang for your buck assuming you are interested in having blu ray which is the STANDARD for HD movies and that you even play online. You also have to add in the cost of 100$ wifi adapter for the 360 which is included in the ps3. Also batteries for 360 controllers, and the relaibility factor, 360 has a failure rate of over 50% where the PS3 is closer to 10%. Also, if 120gigs isnt enough for you you can buy any sata laptop HD say a 500gig for around 80$ and swap it out, but for the 360 you have to buy a 360 specific HD which for a 250gig it will run you closer to 150$...

Have the tables finally turned???

It looks like the tables have turned on the 360. Just a couple years ago 360 owners were bragging about their lineup and how weak the ps3's gaming line up is. Not so true any more.... When i look at the PS3's lineup for the next year it is insane. Infamous, a great open world action game just came out, Uncharted 2, R & C Future: ACIT, God of War 3, MAG, Heavy Rain, White Knight Chronicles, the next kojima game (Probably another Metal Gear), Team Icos new game "Trico", Gran Turismo 5, A new RPG by Square enix that will be PS3 exclusive And those are just exclusives in which im sure i left a few out and im sure more will be announced.... we wont even get into all the multi plats.
When i look at the 360 line up well theres not much to look at.... ANOTHER Halo?? Viva Pinnata sequel?? Wow.... im sure there are MANY im leaving out but it definitely isnt as strong as the PS3 line up.
Software drives hardware sales, and when Sony drops the PS3 price, bye bye 360. People are always concerned with today, well what about tomorrow? 360 came out the gate full force and now is burning out. The lifespan of the 360 will be short like the xbox. The PS3 will be like the PS2 with close to a 10 year lifespan. The PS3 started out slow but well we all know the story of the tortoise and the hare.

Fallout 3 DLC coming to PS3

It was announced that by the end of June all DLC for Fallout 3 will be released for the PS3. There will also be 2 additional downloads coming to the 360 then to the PS3. The first to hit is Operation Anchorage, then the Pitt, followed by Broken Steel. After those there will be 2 more downloads titled Point Lookout, and Mothership Zeta. Point Look out will be a swamp based area and mothershsip zeta will be an incounter with the alien race. The DLC for fallout was a timed exclusive for micro$oft and ends in June so it was only a matter of time before it came to the PS3.

From no games to too many for my budget

As i said before im not 100% fanboy, i researched both the 360 and PS3 before i bought them and yes at the time of the PS3's release there games were lacking but based on blu-ray, free on-line, built in wifi, the word of mouth from friends of the hardware failures of the 360 and the long jevity of sonys consoles (PS2 life span= 10years, xbox life span= 4 year)because paying hundreds for a console i would like it to last atleast 5+ years before they make something else. People complain about the backwards compatibility that the PS3 lacks but with the PS2 being around 10 years im alil ready to move on, i mean if your that worried about 10 year old games go pay 100$ to get a new slim ps2. Of course the 360 better be backwards compatible since it wasnt even around 5 years.

Back to the games though, when i got my Ps3 the only really good games were Resistance, Motorstorm, and a couple multi plats like Assasins Creed. The only really good exclusive was Ratchet & Clank Future. Then 1 game gave me a glimpse of hope for things to come, Uncharted. This game had the best graphics of its time on any system, an great story and fun gameplay. Then along came Metal Gear Solid 4. I have been a fan of this series since its original debut on the Playstation. Its graphics topped Uncharted and was one of my favorite games of 2008. Grand Theft Auto 4 was also a great multi plat game of 08 as well as Soul Calibur 4. Rounding out 08 there were many great multi plats such as Star Wara: TFU, Dead Space, and Fallout 3. It also ended with 2 strong exclusives in Resistance 2, and Little big planet. There were so many good exclusives and multi plats i barely had the funds to keep up. (Im not a hardcore gamer that lives at home in the basement and works just to buy games, i have rent, bills, etc..) 09 has started out a lil slow for the PS3 just as 08. But just like 08 it seems that it will end with a bang. 09 has started out with a great exclusive in Killzone 2. This games grahics and music score are equally matched by great gameplay an on-line. Then in march i picked up the multi plat Resident Evil 5. I have played every RE game since the original on the Playstation and is one of my favorite game series of all time. It was a great game with good graphics and fun single player and multi player modes. My next gaming purchase will be the PS3 exclusive InFamous. This is the first of a many exclusives up comming for the Ps3 in late 09 early 2010. Before the holiday season there will be Uncharted 2 and Ratchet & Clank Futre: ACIT. Plus multi plats to get like Assassins Creed 2 and Borderlands. Then after the holidays there are Ps3 Exclusives like God of War 3, MAG, Heavy Rain, possibly a new Twisted Metal game, and Gran Turismo 5. With all of these up coming games exclusive and multi plat im glad i got a PS3.

ANNOUNCEMENTS! Ghost Buster exclusive? 20-40 old school classics coming to psn?

Capcom has announced that they will be making a list of 20-40 capcom playstation classics for people to vote for on their capcom unity blog. They most voted for titles will be coming to the psn in the next few months. Expect to see The original resident evil titles, Metal Gear titles, Original Street Fighter titles etc,.

At a convention in sydney last nite it was announced that the upcomming Ghost Busters game will be atleast a timed exclusive possibly a full blown exclusive. The fact that Ghostbusters is a Sony Pictures property, and Atari is now headed by previous Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios president Phil Harrison might have a direct connection to the deal. Although a release date is yet to be announced it is definately one that is long over due.

More updates on upcoming PS3 exclusive MAG

MAG is one of the most anticipated shooters of this generation and will definately make 360 owners wish it came out for their system. With 256 players on one map at the same time, that alone is a major selling point as other shooters this generation such as Halo 3, Gears of War 1 and 2, Killzone 2, Call of Duty 4, World at War, SOCOM and Resistance 1 & 2 not even coming close to that number of online players with Resistance 2 having the most at 60. The developers have now announced that in the multiplayer mode players will be able to pilot helicopters, and ground vehicles.

Rockstar making totally new franchise game exclusively for the PS3

Rockstar and Sony made agreements in 07 to develope an exclusive new game for the PS3different from The Grand Theft Auto series. Rockstar stated that they wanted to make a game that fully took advantage of the PS3's cell processor and blu-ray capabilities, which is why they are making it exclusively for PS3 and not the 360. Sony basically gave up exclusivity for Grand Theft Auto IV to gain exclusive rights to Rockstars all new game franchise.

Stories from various gaming sites have been buzzing about apparent leaked information regarding the new PSP gaming system dubbed "PSP GO!" The rumor is that the handheld will be getting rid of the umd drive and will stream movies and games via the psn. The system is supposed to have a sliding touch screen. The rumors are stating that it will be released before christmas in the fall for japan and the u.s. There will probably more on the new PSP at E3 this june. There are many pictures of what the machine could look like but here is the one i think looks the best.

Bioshock 2 no longer a timed exclusive for the 360

It was announced on the official sony blog that Bioshock 2 will release on the same date for the Ps3 as the 360. This is great news conidering micro$oft shelled out a truck load of money to have the original Bioshock released for the 360 before the ps3.

PS3 Exclusive content for Batman arkham asylum?

There has been posters in the ps home that suggest that exclusive content for the ps3 version of the up coming batman game will allow players to play as the joker. This is great news to here that for once micro$oft didnt shell out millions of dollars to cheat ps3 owners of some dlc. Check out the posters at ps home in the main chamber.

Follow up sony announcement 04/27: Sony announced multiplayer for Uncharted 2

The first details of the Uncharted 2 multiplayer and co-op has emerged.
Here is a screen shot and a video;

Photobucket

The details are scarce so far but here is what we know;

Zones / actions in the folder requiered for 2 / 3 players. Mini-bosses in each section. Players will revive after a few seconds (if the other players help to revive)
-Deathmatch. , 4vs4 you can choose two skills. And you need to explore like in Uncharted 1 to find the strongest weapons.

Overall price comparison: PS3 vs. XBOX 360

Some of you may portray me as a ps3 "fanboy" but in actuality if being concerned about getting qaulity products and my moneys worth for them and telling people my thoughts on it is considered being a fanboy then i guess i am... Now that thats out of the way, some of my friends who have the xbox 360 (the very few left that i havent got to trade in there xbox 360 for a ps3) are always complaining about the ps3's price. Lets just brake down the FULL cost of the ps3 vs. 360.

Price vs. Features
1) The 80 gig ps3 is 399$ us dollars and is sonys lower end model now. The 360 arcade wich is hard driveless for 199$ usd and is microsofts lower end model. So far your thinking ok the 360 is 200$ cheaper but you get what you pay for, out the box the ps3 has 80 gig of storage as where the xbox arcade has none. To get that much storage for your arcade model you would need to purchase a hard drive which microsoft made it harder for you as you have to buy a specific one for the xbox (where as the ps3 you can buy any 2.5" lap top hard drive 5400rpm sata which a 250 gig one of them is round 80$) which can cost you 100$ usd for a xbox specific 20 gig hardrive. Thats 60 less gigs for 100$ EXTRA.
-
2) The ps3 has built in wifi and the arcade doesnt. To get wifi for your arcade 360 you will need to buy an adapter which will cost you around 50$ usd.
-
3) The ps3 has a free online service right out the box, the 360 charges 50$ a year. I will say in the xbox's defense that they DID have a better online service so the cost may have been slightly justifiable but now the psn is equal to the xbl when i compare the 2 at friends houses.
-
4) The ps3's controller does not require batteries as it is charged via usb cable from the ps3. The 360 controllers require you to buy and replace the batteries. (Obviously costly over a few years and annoying)
-
5) This one isnt really an extra cost but a strong argument by 360 users to not get a ps3 was a weak line up of games. Now again early in the ps3's life they were lacking games now it is starting to be totally opposite. The ps3 has had exclusives such as Resistance 1 and 2, Uncharted, Metal Gear Solid 4, Little Big Planet, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Killzone 2, and with upcoming exclusives such as Infamous, Heavy Rain, God of War 3, MAG, Uncharted 2, and Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time coming up this year there is no comparison.
-
6) Last but certainly not least, ps3 is a BLU-RAY PLAYER right out of the box!! Blu-ray players even now go for at the least 150$, so if you want cutting edge movie experience in your home you will get one. Trust me, i have a 50 inch 1080p high def t.v. and there is a noticeable difference between an up-scaled dvd and a blu-ray. When my friends want to watch a movie we dont go to one of our friends houses with a 360 and watch it on a dvd we go and watch it on blu-ray.
Breakdown
PS3: 399$-80 gig, built in wifi, free on-line service, no batteries for controller, and a blu-ray player.
-
Xbox 360 arcade: 199$ 20 gig for 100$ extra, 50$ a year for online, $$$ a year for batteries, and 150$ if you wish to get a blu-ray player.
-
So if you add it all up to get the arcade xbox 360 up to par with the ps3 it will cost you 500$!! Not assuming you keep your xbox on live subscription for atleast 3 years which would be 100$ more!! so even if you dont want blu-ray then keeping your on line for the 360 for 3 years will cost you just as much!! Not to mention i have had my PS3 for almost 2 years and have never had a problem with it, ALL of my friends who have the 360 have sent it back for red ring of death, disc scratching, disc read errors etc, atleast once most of them atleast 3 times!! It may be free to get it repaired but it takes weeks to get it back, what are you going to play while you wait..... a PS3!!!

PS3 E3 09

This year is going to be quite the year for sony and the ps3 at e3. With recent news of Resident Evil directors cut coming to the psn as well as FF7 we hope to hear a solid release date at e3. Not to mention the potential for a price cut announcement and a list of blockbuster titles with either release date info, demos, etc:

God of War 3
Uncharted 2
Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time
Heavy Rain
MAG
Grand Turismo 5

David Jaffe (mind behind the God of War series) has also been working on another project and lately has said he will be announcing what the project is. Hope he will fill us in at e3 and we all can only hope that it will be another installment in the Twisted Metal series.

News on the psp2 is expected as well. A description of its features as well as a release date is possible at the convention.
