Sony makes waves at gamescon

To me games con had better anouncements than E3. Let me list some of the key announcements that relate to the PS3.

Resistance 3 officially announced for 2011 with teaser trailer
2 new PS3 sku's announced: 160 gig and 320 gig as well as a possible price drop
Cole getting his old look back for Infamous 2
A new Ratchet & Clank game called All 4 One announced for fall 2011
And the biggest news of all..... Mass effect 2 going to PS3 with extra DLC

360 may have got a wannabe Metal gear game and some new multiplat from insomniac but ps3 getting mass effect!? and portal 2? Also, there are rumours that the Left for Dead series is aslo going multiplatform.... as i said before 1st party studios are where its at, now all microsoft has is Bungie... hope all you 360 boys enjoy your washed up handfull of halo titles.

Finally people are seeing the flaws in "kinect"

Im not much of a fan of any motion peripheral but the spot on accuracy of ps3's move and integration into more hardcore games has my attention. Another thing that is getting many peoples attention is the many problems surfacing already about Microsofts kinect. My 1st problem with it is the fact that there are no controllers.... i do not see this working well for any kind of hardcore titles. Secondly, its apparent lag. Third, it apparently wont work sitting down for most applications! Gamers want to sit and play games! Not stand up! Now i here that you have to dress certain ways for the camera to recognize your movements! A woman tried to play one of the games and it didnt work properly due to her wearing a long skirt that made kinect not be able to recognize her legs, talk about pathetic.

InFamous 2 E3 trailer

InFamous was one of my favorite new IP's this gen and when i heard they were making the 2nd i new it would be a must buy for me. They have redesigned Cole's look and got a new voice actor which i cant say im thrilled about but the new powers and revamped gameplay should make up for it. Check out the trailer.

E3 Keynotes, Sony definately outshined Microsoft

Well there were many announcemants from both camps this year and ill admit most years Microsoft steals the show by announcing a stolen exclusive from Sony but this year the tides have turned. In a nut shell ill list the key notes from each company's press conference.

Microsoft
This year microsoft showed many things that were just rehashes of last year. Heres a list in a nut shell.

Games: Halo Reach, Fable 3, Crackdown 2, Metal Gear solid Rising, etc...
Slim 360 with 250 gig hd, wifi(finally) for 299$

Kinect...... stupid

Sony
Alot of 3d gaming

Move priced, normal controller 49.99$, accessory controller 29.99$ bundled with slim PS3 399$

Premium PSN plus keeping free component

Games: Little Big Planet 2, Killzone 3(with 3d and move support), Infamous 2, Metal Gear Solid Rising, Realease date of Gran Turismo of Nov 2nd(finally; and with 3d support), Final Fantasy 14, Exclusive PS3 contnent for Mafia 2, Exlusive PS3 content and PS3 only beta for Assassins Creed Brotherhood, and one that i have been calling for months Twisted Metal for PS3, but the biggest surprise game they showed was from none other than valve in Portal 2 and announcing that its lead platform for developement will be the PS3.

So as you can see sony definatley locked down E3 with the most game announcements and alot of 3d support. Games sell systems and now Sony definately has the most 1st party exclusives and is now locking down the 3rd party by brining valve out of there xbox shell and getting a ton of exclusive content for 3rd party multplat titles.

Keeping the trailer posts rollin with Fallout new vegas, Dead Space 2, and Star Wars:TFU 2

Fallout 3 is still one of my favorite games this gen and with the information pouring in about the newest edition in the series Fallout: New Vegas dropping Oct. 9th the excitement is only growing. Dead Sapce was another one of my favorite new IP's this gen and with a 2011 release for Dead Space 2 coming Jan. 25th you can mark your calenders. Last on the list is Star Wars TFU 2. The first one was a great addition to the star wars gaming library and the second looks to one up it releasing Oct. 26th. Check out these recent railers of Fallout and Dead Space 2 and the E3 trailer for Star Wars The Force Unleashed 2.

DVD Finally showing its inferior capabilities?

There is always a new form of media that comes out and its expensive and not well accepted at first but when its a better technology and it gets cheaper it ALWAYS replaces its predacessor. This is the case with cd's replacing music tapes and dvds replacing movie tapes. Well now the new best standard for high defintition is Blu ray. Now that it has been out for sometime and the players and movies themselves have become more cheaper its dominance is growing. Well we all know that Sony created this tech just as they created cd's and is used in the PS3. Just like HD DVD was sent to the grave by blu ray it is only a matter of time before dvd follows.
Photobucket

With heavy hitter AAA PS3 exclusives like Killzone 2, Uncharted 2, and Heavy Rain it is easy to see that the truth is dvds limited storage space is hindering the potential of multi platform games when it comes to the PS3. It has even been spoken about from the developers of Lost Planet 2 who came out and said they had to sacrifice alot of content to not exceed the limitations of the 360's dvd. They also stated that the content that didnt fit would more than likely be sold as DLC. Im sorry but im tired of getting lackluster multi plat games because of developers being limited by dvd storage capacity. We have seen games this whole gen come out for the 360 before the PS3 and then later on a PS3 version get released with more content and better graphics, one example being Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2. When will people realize that the 360 and its dvd drive are sub par with the standard of high definition and with more and more PS3 exclusives showing not only the power of the PS3 but the power of the extra storage that blu ray provides.

Heavy Rain contender for GotY 2010??

With all of the blockbuster titles coming out in just the first 4 months of the year its hard to think about the fact that there is still 8 more months in the year that will be filled with even more AAA titles. I give credit where it is due and the 360 has many AAA titles of its own for 2010, but just for PS3 exclusives which ones stand out as a Game of the year? Instantly i think of God of War 3. One game though that has intrigued me since i first heard of it is Heavy Rain. Every time i here more news about this game or see new footage of it i get more and more excited about it. I think GotY should be more than just the game that sold the most copies, or had the highest score on metacritic. It should be more about innovation and pushing the limit. Heavy Rain is about the story of a serial killer named the Origami killer and the events of this story from 4 different peoples perspectives. What is interesting about Heavy Rain is that there is over 20 hours of dialogue and literally each decision you make in the game can change the course of the game entirely. In most games if the main character you are playing dies it is game over, but in HR if you die you just continue the story from another persons perspective. So there are almost endless possibilities to how the story can unfold and end giving it huge replay value. Look at this recently released video of Heavy Rain and you will see why i believe it is a contender for Game of the Year. Keep in mind that in this video the footage you are seeing is 100% in game footage of a person actually controlling the character. Be Warned that the video contains CG nudity.Enjoy!

Early 2010 Games im looking out for

With the blockbuster year of games that the PS3 had last year, multi and exclusive, looks like 2010 just may top it. Here are some of the upcoming games im looking to get.

First of all, January/ February are a couple packed months for gaming so with a limited budget i have to pick out the definate picks from the maybes. January starts off with Darksiders, Bayonetta, Army of two: 40th day, and MAG. All of which are buyable games but after October-December having purchased Borderlands, Assassins Creed 2, Ratchet & Clank Future: A crack in Time, and Uncharted 2, my pockets are left a little empty. So i will have to already dismiss Bayonetta. Although i played the demo and it seems like a fun intersting game it is to much of a Devil May Cry clone and those games just arent my style. As for the other 3 they will have to be maybes and put off for a few months. Played the MAG beta and i was decently impressed but im very tired of 1st person shooters and dont really care much for online competitive play. Ive heard good things about Darksiders but i feel it could be a rent. Army of two looks like it will be a fun multi player shooter so when one of my buddies picks it up maybe i will too to play the co-op. Lets move on to February.

February is an extremely packed month but there are a couple of titles in that month that to me are must buys. Feb has White Knight Chronicals, Dantes Inferno, Bioshock 2, Star Ocean The Last Hope: International, Singularity, Alien Vs. Predator, Lost Planet 2, and Heavy Rain. Let me start off with my first must buy and it is Heavy Rain. With the deep story, great graphics, and unique game play style as well as hundreds of game changing decisions in the game giving it high replay value it is a day one buy for me. My second highly interested title is Alien Vs. Predator. Now although this game has got some good reviews, alot of people feel it wont be that good. Let me start off by saying im a fan of the Aliens and Predator franchises and the idea of having not only a story mode of either being an Alien, Predator, or Marine, but an online multiplayer battle with all 3 of those species running around doing battle just sounds fun to me. Plus the with Australia banning the game due to excessive gore i.e; aliens ripping marines in half and predators pulling off marines heads and keeping them as trophies, as well as excessive blood you just cant go wrong! Next on my list is Dantes Inferno. DI is in my opinion a God of War clone. Which since im a big GoW fan that doesnt really bother me. I played the demo and was impressed with the game play and graphics, but with the previous 2 games being must buys and God of War 3 coming just one month later this one may be a buy in a couple months. As for all the others although they are all honorable mentions im just not that interested. Moving on to March now.

March is not as jammed packed as February but it is not lacking in quality. It has Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Final Fantasy XIII, and God of War 3. My must buy here is God of War 3. If you ever played the previous 2 or played the demo for the third then i have nothing more to say. If you havent then i suggest you buy the God of War collection which is a remake of the first 2 on one blu ray and comes with a demo of the 3rd for 49.99$. As for BBC2 like im said im tired of first person shooters. Now i know everyone is waiting for Final Fantasy XIII but iv never been a fan of any of the others so im just not interested.
